Thanksgiving is celebrated in Plymouth.

October 15, 1621

(Early Oct.) The Pilgrim settlers in New Plymouth (originally Patuxet) begin a three-day rejoicing celebration that Rev. Alexander Young first describes as Thanksgiving in 1841. Hearing gunfire, Ousamequin (Massassoit) and an estimated 90 members of the Wampanoag (Pokanoket) tribe arrive at the settlement and are invited to join the festivities. The day becomes a Massachusetts holiday in 1713,* and a national holiday in 1863.*
